Smart Women Smart Money Magazine was born out of a powerful legacy of financial education and empowerment. Originally launched as a series of conferences founded by former Idaho State Treasurer Ron Crane in 1999, the Smart Women Smart Money events brought together thousands of women across the country to learn, connect, and grow in their financial journeys.
In 2018, the State Financial Officers Foundation (SFOF) became the parent organization for Smart Women Smart Money to carry on its mission. During the next few years, SFOF successfully maintained the annual Idaho conference, and added new events in Omaha, NE, Little Rock, AR, and one for Kentucky – all hosted by state treasurers in those states.
When the COVID-19 pandemic brought those in-person gatherings to a halt, Managing Editor Melanie Kreifels, saw an opportunity to continue the mission in a new way. Amid the uncertainty of the pandemic, she envisioned a resource that women could turn to for guidance, inspiration, and practical tools—no matter where they were. That vision became Smart Women Smart Money Magazine, a free quarterly publication dedicated to promoting financial literacy and confidence.
Today, our team of passionate writers and contributors covers a wide range of topics including:
- 💰 Budgeting and saving strategies
- 🏡 Homebuying for beginners
- 👩💼 Spotlights on women in finance
- 🚀 Entrepreneurship and small business tips
- 🗳️ The intersection of politics and economics—especially when it affects everyday Americans
We believe financial knowledge is power, and our mission is to make that power accessible to every woman. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take your financial game to the next level, Smart Women Smart Money Magazine is here to support your journey.
